THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Bureau of Industrial Promotion (K-bip), a non-profit autonomous body under the State Industries Department, is developing a Malayalam GNU/Linux desktop.

This will be available for free for the users within two months, according to a spokesman of the State IT Mission.

The project has technical support from the Free Software Foundation (FSF) and financial assistance from the Asia-Pacific Development Information Programme of the UNDP.

According to the project developers, it can be used in e-governance. The Malayalam font developed as part of the project can be downloaded from the Web. The software also supports Tamil and Kannada.
