Safeguard duty mooted on Bisphenol A

K.R. Srivats

New Delhi , Nov 19

THE Director General (Safeguards) has recommended the imposition of safeguard duty on imports of Bisphenol A into India.

Informed sources said that progressively reducing ad-valorem duty rates had been recommended for a period of two years to facilitate "positive adjustment" by the domestic industry.

The Director General has suggested that an ad-valorem duty rate of 15 per cent be imposed as safeguard duty in the first year and an ad-valorem duty rate of 10 per cent be imposed in the second year.

The Government can impose duty on an article if it is imported in volumes and conditions that may threaten to cause injury to industry.
