Aktiva Biotech facility in SP Biotech Park

AKTIVA Biotech Ltd., a Hyderabad-based biopharmaceutical company has begun construction of its Good Manufacturing Practises (GMP) Production plant at the S.P. Biotech Park in the Genome Valley on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The biotech start-up incorporated in 2001 hopes to come out with recombinant therapeutic proteins for treatment of various cancer ailments, for which it has exclusive technical tie ups in India and marketing worldwide with well-known organisation in Europe.

In addition, the company plans to launch products developed indigenously for fertility treatment and Hyalurinic acid for the treatment of arthritis and eye problems. Aktiva hopes to bring these products to the market by end of 2004, according to a company press release.

The Executive Director, Mr V. Raja Sekhar Reddy said the company had also take a research and development lab at the ICICI Knowledge Park Phase 2 for pilot scale studies and optimisation of its products. The GMP production unit is expected to be ready in about 8 months time, he told Business Line.

The Indian market for the anti-cancer products targeted by the company is around Rs 85 crore and is expected to reach Rs 250 crore by end of 2005.
