Concor launches train link to Chennai from Tughlakabad

New Delhi , Nov 20

CONTAINER Corporation of India Ltd (Concor) has started a direct export train service connecting its flag-ship inland container depot (ICD) located at Tughlakabad near Delhi and the Chennai Container Terminal (CCT) run by P&O Ports.

The first direct export train from Tughlakabad to CCT was flagged off on Thursday by Mr B N Shukla, Chief General Manager, Concor.

The first export train service moved out with cargo destined for China and given the huge demand for exports to eastern destinations, P&O Ports officials reckon that the growth in the sector will lead to increased frequency of trains and traffic volumes.

This service is yet another breakthrough in the on-going efforts to provide alternatives to the North India trade which is facing problems of congestion at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust

(JNPT) and Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT).

Chennai Container Terminal in coordination with Concor launched direct rail services to bring imports into Delhi from Chennai. Starting with a weekly train service, the frequency has now increased to a train every alternate day.
