Sanmar Speciality acquires Bangalore Genei

THE Sanmar group has entered bio-tech business through an acquisition — Sanmar Speciality Chemicals Ltd today announced the acquisition of Bangalore Genei Pvt Ltd.

Bangalore Genei, founded in 1989, produces enzymes and related reagents for genetic engineering research. Genei claims to be the only company in South-East Asia to produce certain types of enzymes and DNA, for use in genetic engineering research. The company also trades in certain biochemicals, micro tips, micro tubes and other consumables; small electrophoresis equipment and power supply to biology researchers using its marketing and sales network to provide complete service for its customers. Apart from these, it provides training in molecular biology and immunotechniques.

According to sources, Bangalore Genei has a contract with a well-known biotechnology company in the US for carrying out certain development studies etc as a part of a drug discovery project.
