Hyderabad , Dec. 13 IDEA Cellular Ltd, the private cellular operator with over two million customers in the country, on Saturday announced its move to slash regional roaming charges for its post-paid customers in the southern region. Now, Idea customers will enjoy over 50 per cent reduction in roaming rates in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Chennai and Tamil Nadu while roaming with Idea, Hutch or BPL networks. The roaming rates on incoming calls are now reduced to Rs 2.99 from Rs 5.99 and would be applicable to all Idea subscribers of Andhra Pradesh for roaming to above circles in the southern region. The new rates would be applicable from December 15. Idea subscribers in Andhra Pradesh are offered SMS rates of 30 paisa per message. Recently, Idea launched new tariff plans such as Buzz 99, Buzz 249, Buzz 499 (which offers 400 minutes of cell-to-cell talk time free) and pre-paid at the rate of Rs 1.49. Commenting on the occasion, Mr Vikram Mehmi, CEO, Idea Cellular in a statement said, "With continuously increasing trend of mobile usage among our customers, we want to offer them the best value. This will benefit over 12-lakh mobile subscribers in the southern region. With a subscriber base of over two million across the country, it has been the frontrunner in introducing innovative tariff plans catering to the customer needs and is committed to providing a superior mobile experience to its customers. The company has recently achieved its financial closure with a project cost of Rs 5,000 crore.
