THE Governments of Sri Lanka and Kerala are in discussions to forge partnerships in several areas including tourism, health, education and fisheries, says an official press release.
Mr Ravi Karunanayake, Minister for Commerce, Sri Lanka, and Mr K.V. Thomas, Kerala Minister for Tourism and Fisheries, had a round of discussions in Thiruvananthapuram on these issues, the release added.
Creation of a partnership, including a possible joint venture, between the Sri Lanka tourism department and Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) is one venture discussed by the two delegations.
Another initiative that figured prominently in the discussions was the possibility of establishing a passenger ship service between Sri Lanka and Vizhinjam, near Thiruvananthapuram, says the release.
Setting up such a service is expected to give a fillip to tourism particularly budget tourism, between the two destinations, the release adds.
