AP Rural Olympics a big draw

HYDERABAD: Over 1.5 lakh participants, including considerable number of women, were stated to have participated in the "first-ever" Rural Olympics organised in 10 districts of Andhra Pradesh by the Federation of Farmers Associations (FFA) with the support of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh.

The games selected were team-oriented and according to the organisers, 90 teams comprising 560 players have emerged as winners.

The winning teams, along with their supporters, arrived here on Saturday to take part in the two-day State Finals competitions being held at the Lal Bahadur Stadium.

The games selected were kabaddi, volley ball, relay shuttle race, cycle shuttle relay and tennikoit.

The Chief Advisor of FFA, Mr Anil Kumar V. Epur, stated that entire sports event was held at four levels - village, mandal, district and the State. The whole event that lasted for over two months had a "mela" atmosphere.
