FLAG refutes allegations on bandwidth allocation

Our Bureau

New Delhi , March 10

FLAG Telecom Ltd, subsidiary of the Reliance group, has refuted allegations of Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) and global carriers — AT&T, Sprint and MCI WorldCom — that it has failed to fulfil its commitments regarding bandwidth allocation in order to favour Reliance Infocomm Ltd.

In a letter written to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), FLAG has noted that there is enough bandwidth capacity available with it and the company seeks to dispel any apprehension on availability of capacity.

The company has also provided TRAI with details of the capacity that can be made available on the FLAG system of undersea cable network.

"FLAG wishes to reiterate its role as a carriers' carrier in meeting the needs of various carriers, IT and ITES industries that it can provide," the company has noted.

It may be recalled that VSNL, MCI and AT&T had written to FLAG stating that its "manipulative actions are jeopardising international traffic to and from India. In the absence of the requested bandwidth capacity, AT&T and VSNL are not in a position to provide the much-desired diverse path between India and the US to their respective infotech customers," they had noted.
