Rubber prices up

Aravindan

Kottayam , March 30

THE physical rubber rates flared up on Tuesday. The covering groups chasing the narrow arrivals offered higher quotations to fulfil their commitments, while the growers kept on the sidelines as usual.

All the grades except latex improved and the market became active once again during the concluding session of the financial year. There was not any selling pressure from the growers' side as the dry spell continued to disrupt latex production.

In the domestic spot market, sheet rubber RSS 4 closed at Rs 56 against Rs 55.50 on Monday.

The futures market was almost steady on Tuesday. The April delivery was quoted at Rs 56.57 (Rs 56.40); May delivery at Rs 58.42 (Rs 58.56); June delivery at Rs 60.65 (Rs 60.77); and July delivery at Rs 61.30 (Rs 61.39) per kg for RSS 4. The transactions were low.

The spot market rates per kg on Tuesday were as follows: RSS 4 Rs 56 (Rs 55.50); RSS 5 Rs 55 (Rs 54.50); Ungraded Rs 53 (Rs 52.50); ISNR 20 Rs 55.50 (Rs 55); Latex 60% Rs 41.50 (Rs 41.50).
