KMC Hospital unveils `concept clinics' in Mangalore

There are plans to start concept clinics for the senior citizens and for those with joint pains. These clinics are likely to be operational by 2005.

Mangalore , April 7

KASTURBA Medical College (KMC) Hospital, an associated hospital of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, has come out with "concept clinics" to celebrate World Health Day.

Dr Padmini Prasad, gynaecologist, inaugurated KMC All-Women Clinic — a concept clinic - at Bejai in Mangalore on Wednesday. She told presspersons that KMC All-Women Clinic has given emphasis to provide quality healthcare to women who insist being examined by woman doctors only.

Specialists in areas such as general medicine, eye, ENT, clinical psychology, gynaecology, painless delivery, pain and palliative care, paediatrics, surgery, and physiotherapy would provide their assistance at the clinic from 4.30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Dr Prabha Adhikari, Main Coordinator of All-Women Clinic, said that KMC might set up more such concept clinics. There are plans to start concept clinics for the senior citizens and for those with joint pains. These clinics are likely to be operational by 2005.

Dr D.P. Saraswat, Chief Operating Officer of KMC Hospitals, said that 27 woman doctors would provide their assistance at the clinic.

Even the support staff of the clinic, including laboratory technicians and pharmacists, are women. KMC All-Women Clinic is the first one in this geographical area, he said.

Asked if "mobile concept clinics" would be introduced for the benefit of people in rural and semi-urban areas, he said that such plans are not there at the moment. They will decide on that based on the performance of this concept clinic.
