Tourism Kurnool to get tourism boost with Rs 6-cr projects K.V. Kurmanath
Hyderabad , April 15 KURNOOL district, which is home to the popular tourism sites such as the Belum caves, Srisailam and Mantralayam temples, will have several infrastructure projects worth Rs 6 crore in this financial year that are expected to enhance tourism offerings in the district. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) has lined up four projects for the financial year to offer variety fare and better hospitality services. A park named after the former Chief Minister, Mr Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy, would come up at Kurnool town. As many as 25,000 tourists visited the district during 2002-03. The Rs 2.32-crore project would have a museum, throwing light on the life and achievements of the late Congress leader. At Orvakal, the corporation would develop a Quartzite Park, hillside landscape and wayside amenities. "The Government handed over 203 acres to the corporation for taking up the Rs 45-lakh project," a senior APTDC official said. The corporation would open a Rs 3-crore Punnami restaurant in Nandyal, an important town in the district. "The hotel will consist of 50 rooms, a bar and restaurant. It will be located on the Nandyal-Kadapa road," he added. The corporation recently opened a 24-roomed Punnami unit at Kurnool at a cost of Rs 2.75 crore. "It is an epicentre for hospitality and logistic services for tourists visiting Alampur, Mantralayam, Srisailam, Ahobilam, Mahanandi and Belum caves.
