Mumbai , April 27

JET Airways has achieved an overall passenger growth of 8 per cent last year, besides maintaining its market share of 46 per cent during the year, according to Mr Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, Chief Executive Officer.

Mr Prock-Schauer was speaking at the launch of a special engine for online booking and purchase of e-tickets by Jet.

The launch of e-tickets would allow bookings and purchase of tickets up to two hours before the scheduled flight time, according to Mr Prock-Schauer.

The use of e-tickets, he said, would bring down drastically instances of loss of the paper document.

The speed and reliability of the facility would also provide value to the travelling passenger.

Mr Prock-Schauer said the facility, currently available on the Jet Airways Web site alone, would soon be extended to travel agents and the airline's interline partners.

Jet Airways has partnered with GetThere (A Sabre Company) to power its web sales engine, which can be accessed at the airline site www.jetairways.com.

The same Web sales engine is in use by British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and United Airlines, among others.

According to the Senior General Manager, Mr Gaurang Shetty, the engine supported enquiries for one-way, return and multi-city options on all classes of travel, besides adult and child bookings.

However, cancellations and changes in travel details would have to be completed at a booking office or directed to the airline's call centre.

The facility could be accessed by passengers based abroad as well, he said.

Among the other advantages that e-ticketing brought were that revenue calculations for the day would be instantaneous. A photo identity was mandatory for passengers using the e-ticket.

The airline issued 30 electronic tickets on its Mumbai-Delhi flight to kick off the new facility.
