Events Workshop for farmers in Hyderabad Our Bureau
Hyderabad , May 5 THE State Department of Horticulture is organising a workshop on value-addition to cashew and sapota for the benefit of farmers at Jubilee Hall in Hyderabad on May 8. Cashew is predominantly grown in the northern coastal districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and West Godavari, while sapota is grown in Prakasam district. Cashew apple and nut fall off when ripe and as a result a large quantity gets wasted. Efforts have been made to introduce processing cashew apples, which can generate employment and augment income. The workshop will also deal with the techniques and importance of processing sapota. The Department of Horticulture has also announced an eight-week certificate course in micro-irrigation for ITI candidates. The training course gains relevance in the background of the launch of the A.P. Micro Irrigation Project by the State Government, which has recognised the importance of water resource management and utilisation. The AP Horticulture Training Institute trained 45 candidates in the first batch of the Micro Irrigation Certificate Course, a press release said.
