Announcements GM India to launch special edition of Corsa Our Bureau
Pune , May 25 CLOSE on the heels of the launch of the Chevrolet Tavera, the multi utility vehicle, General Motors India is all set to launch the special edition of Corsa. This would be a limited edition and would be made available to the first 400 customers who place their orders, Mr Rajeev Chaba, Chief Operating Officer, General Motors India, told Business Line. He said this special edition would hit the market within a couple of months and would have additional feature and gadgets such as alloy wheels and other frills `to entice the customers'. He, however, said that the pricing was yet to be decided. GM India offers products under the Chevrolet and Opel brands in the country. Chevrolet branded products were introduced in the Indian market in March 2003 and the products under this brand include Optra and Forester AWD. The Tavera is the latest entrant under the Chevrolet badge. Talking about its other plans for the current calendar year, he said it would be looking at maintaining the leadership position of Optra. Optra is currently head on with Corolla from the Toyota stable and has a market share of about 30 per cent. Ramp up of Tavera, Chevrolet branding and concentrating on Opel sales would be the highlight for the year, he said. ``Basically, we would be looking at consolidation of the various products and increasing our sales figures,'' he said. Mr Chaba said the company is targeting sales of about 30,000 units for the current calendar year as against 15,000 units that were sold last year. Of this, the Tavera sales would be about 10,000 units, he said.
