Infrastructure Azad to expedite Master Plan for Delhi region Our Bureau
New Delhi , May 25 WITH the Congress heading the Government at both the Centre and Delhi, the Master Plan for the development of the National Capital Region (NCR) is likely to get expedited. Speaking to reporters soon after taking charge, the new Urban Development Minister, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, said on Tuesday that he would accord high priority to the Master Plan for NCR. The emphasis would be on development of infrastructure, connectivity and industrial areas for a "harmonious growth" of the Capital and its surrounding areas, he said. "We will be able to expedite the decision making process as the Congress is in power at both the Centre and Delhi. Earlier, when different parties were in power at the Centre and Delhi, decisions did get bogged down to some extent," Mr Azad said. Mr Azad said the second phase of Delhi Metro would be completed by September next year and the Ministry would submit a detailed report by August end on expansion of the project. About regularisation of unauthorised colonies in Delhi, he said he would soon discuss the issue with the State administration and resolve the issue in the best possible manner. He also emphasised his Government's resolve to intensify the drive to increase Delhi's green cover. Mr Azad also said that departments like the Delhi Development Authority and Central Public Works Department should work hard to change the mind set of the people towards their functioning.
