THE Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Assocham) has requested the Government to give a chance to the Electricity Act 2003 and implement the various provisions of the Act in its true spirit.

At a meeting with the Power Minister, Mr P.M. Sayeed, the Assocham delegation led by Mr Mahendra K Sanghi, President of the Chamber, said, "The majority of the provisions of the Act are implementable which could lead reforms in the power sector and encourage new entrepreneurs to come forward with investments in the power sector."

Mr Sanghi added that the priority being given to rural electrification by the Government would transform rural India into a healthy and prosperous sector providing not only electricity but also contributing for the overall rural development.
