Mumbai , June 8

THE Mumbai-based Valecha Engineering Ltd, engaged in construction of high-end infrastructure and engineering projects, has bagged a Rs 15.21-crore project from Airports Authority of India (AAI) for upgradation of the Vadodara airport.

The project, which has to be wrapped up in 15 months, involves strengthening of runway, provision of shoulders, construction of isolation bay and other associated works. The job involves significant earth work, soil stabilisation, laying wet mix macadam, bituminous pavement, rigid pavement, plain cement concrete, brick work and laying NP4 600mm diameter pipe.

According to company officials, the work will be carried out using state-of-the-art equipment such as computerised hot mix plant for processing mix and electronic sensor paver for laying bituminous mix to the required line, levelling, grading and cambering to precision. Similarly, rigid pavement mix will be processed in the computerised batching plant and laid to the required line, levelled, graded and cambered with the most sophisticated G & Z Paver imported from the US.

The company had executed similar projects at Dimapur Airport in 2002, which was completed five months ahead of schedule, and at India's busiest airport, Mumbai International Airport in 2003, which was completed within 150 days as stipulated in the contract, apart from resurfacing the Chennai airport in 2003.

Valecha's diverse product portfolio includes construction of highways, bridges, canals, tunnels, dams and commercial real estate development.

With an order book position of Rs 270 crore and pre-qualification for another Rs 2,700 crore worth of highway projects, the company is poised to reap the benefits of an impending boom in the infrastructure sector.
