Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Minister for Local Self-Government, Mr Cherkalam Abdulla, has launched the `Bhavanasree' housing scheme of State Bank of India at a function at Anchal in Kollam district.

Bhavanasree is a housing scheme with concessional rates exclusively for use of members of the `Kudumbasree' neighbourhood groups and launched jointly with the Kerala State Kudumbasree Poverty Eradication Mission.

Under this programme, various banks will join the Kudumbasree Mission to extend assistance to around 50,000 families throughout the State. The borrowers would also be insured for the cost of the house so that the surviving family members are not burdened with the loan liability.

The Chief General Manager, State Bank f India, Mr C. Narasimhan, handed over the `letter of allocation' for Rs 10 crore for Kollam district to Mr T.K. Jose, Executive Director, Kudumbasree. Among those who attended the function included Ms Radha Unni, General Manager, and Mr K.P. Venugopala, Assistant General Manager, SBI.
