Plea for passport office in Mangalore

Our Bureau

MANGALORE: The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has requested the Union External Affairs Minister, Mr Natwar Singh, to upgrade the passport collection centre in Mangalore to a full-fledged passport office.

In a letter to Mr Singh, copies of which were released to the press here, the KCCI President, Mr R.D. Kini, said that most of the States have two or more passport offices where as Karnataka has only one.

He said that Bangalore passport office receives nearly 60 per cent of applications from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Most of the mega industries have their offices in these districts, he said.

Mr Kini requested the Minister to sanction a full-fledged passport office to Mangalore at the earliest.
