Power NPC plans energy accounting system Our Bureau
Hyderabad , June 23 THE National Productivity Council (NPC) is working on a pilot project to evolve a computerised energy accounting system that will help keep tabs on transmission and distribution of energy. The Rs 300-crore project, being implemented in Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal and Assam, will develop a computerised GIS (Geographical Information System) model, said Mr R.C. Monga, Deputy Director General of NPC. Addressing a news conference here, he said the council promoted green production. "For us, productivity is not just labour or capital productivity," he said. Mr Monga said the NPC was the authorised body to certify energy managers under the Electricity Act. "We conducted the first exam last month and the response was good. There is a lot of potential in this segment," he said. Briefing on the four-day international seminar on `Change management in an economy of speed' that began on Tuesday, he said the idea was to identify factors for effective management of change and develop strategies. The seminar is organised by the Asian Productivity Organisation (APO) in association with NPC. APO is an inter-governmental body with 20 member countries. The seminar will come out with a set of recommendations for application by Asian businesses. Globalisation and the resultant expansion of markets obliterated the word `local work force. Soon we will see global workforce," said Prof Thomas Sy of California State University and a resource person for the seminar. The question is how do we manage this change well, he said. Delivering the inaugural address, Dr S.K. Pachauri, Director-General of NPC, said organisations world over faced several external changes. "Identification of needs and openings for change, establishing a vision for change and a Change Management Team, and finally implementing the change are very important for an organisation to carry on."
