Bangalore , July 12

IN a triangular cooperation pact, Germany's FIZ, Karnataka Biotechnology Development Council (KBDC) and International Technology Cooperation Network (ITCN) on Monday signed an MoU to promote partnerships in biotech research and business between the two countries.

The agreement will enable exploration of tie-ups, exchange of information and technology collaboration between companies, especially SMEs from the two sides.

A virtual bridge will be set up through a Web site and the move will get a boost with the visit of the Head of the Hessen State Government in October, a German official said.

The bridge would catalyse partnerships in biotech and try to take in as many players as possible from the two sides, said the ITCN Adviser, Ms Anandi Iyer.

According to Mr Divakar Rao, ED and CEO, KBDC, who signed the pact for Karnataka Government, Germany has some cutting edge R&D going on and Indian companies and institutes can benefit from suitable collaborations with them. It will be of mutual benefit and roadshows and programmes have been planned for the coming months.

FIZ, or the Frankfurt Innovation for Biotechnology, is a public-private project.
