New Delhi , July 13

LEADING education technology and e-learning company Educomp Datamatics Ltd has announced its foray into the retail market. The company will open exclusive stores, called `Play n Learn,' devoted exclusively to educational toys, books and CD-ROMs.

"With our first store already in place in Gurgaon, Educomp is looking at setting up 25 more stores across India by March 2005. We will invest close to Rs 3 crore this year in the retail foray and another Rs 3 crore over the next two years," the Educomp CEO, Mr Shantanu Prakash, said in a statement here.

He said in the first phase of expansion, the company will concentrate on major cities. Educomp will open flagship stores in major metros, taking the franchisee route to expand in other cities across India.

Some of the leading brands to be made available at the Play n Learn stores include global brands such as Vtech, K's Kids, Playgo, Barbie, Learning Roads, Kingfisher and DK Multimedia. "The idea behind setting up such stores was to seamlessly integrate education with entertainment for children in the impressionable age," said Mr Dipankar Biswas, Business Manager at Educomp.
