Thiruvananthapuram , July 30

A SUM of Rs 50 lakh is believed to have gone missing from a currency consignment received at the Reserve Bank of India's regional office in Thiruvananthapuram from the Mysore unit of the Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudra Ltd.

An RBI spokesperson confirmed that there was "some shortfall" in a currency consignment received by the RBI's regional office in Thiruvananthapuram.

Meanwhile, police sources said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the disappearance of the money. The CBI has, in fact, registered a case in this regard, the sources added.

The shortfall is believed to have been discovered on Thursday when staff at the RBI's Thiruvananthapuram office started checking the currency consignment received from Mysore. During this process, a pack of Rs 500 notes worth Rs 50 lakh was found missing, police sources said.
