Poultry Prices of eggs hiked again G. Gurumurthy
Coimbatore , Aug. 2 FARM-gate price of layer eggs has been increased further this week on improved market conditions. The wholesale price of table egg, which remained anchored at Rs 1.25 a piece has started rising since last week, on account of higher off-take, the egg trade said. The Namakkal zonal committee of the National Egg Coordination Committee, which increased the per unit egg rate by five paise to Rs 1.30 last weekend, has again hiked it by another five paise on Monday. The hike is on account of the anticipated surge in the egg demand in upmarket, which, according to Namakkal-based egg trade, may go for higher consumption due the `shravan' in some States. The observance of `shravan' in some upmarket regions has had a sobering effect on consumption in June-July, triggering drop in egg price. The egg trade is also encouraged on a higher demand from shell egg export trade. The shell egg shipment from Namakkal region was hovering between 90-110 container loads a month during March-May dropped down to 60-70 containers. The egg export is likely to go up from this month, sources said.
