Demo on waste management in Kochi

Our Bureau

Kochi , Aug 3

THE Bangalore-based Geonomic BT Pvt. Ltd has conducted a demonstration for corporation councillors on the solid waste management project proposed by the company in Kochi.

The project Director, Mr Chakravarthy Murali, has given details about the infrastructure required to set up the project. He said that the project would yield compost manure, sanitary land filling and vermi compost. There would also be an incinerator to burn out certain waste that cannot be used for any of the output conceived by the project.

He said that the compost would be made in 25 days while vermi compost would be ready in 10 days. About 25 per cent to 40 per cent of compost can be made from 100-tonne waste.

The project will be set up on BOT basis and the corporation will have to make arrangements to collect the waste and make it available at the identified spot in Brahmapuram. The plant will have proper roofing so that rain water does not mix with the waste during its processing, he said.

The Corporation Council has approved Rs 4.40 crore for buying the land and building the infrastructure for solid waste management.
