Bhelssia to set up fabrication design centre at Tiruchi

Our Correspondent

Madurai , Aug. 8

THE BHEL-Small Scale Industries Association (Bhelssia) has decided to establish a common design centre for engineering fabrication units at Triuchi.

According to Bhelssia President, Mr R. Rajappa Rajkumar, the association, an umbrella organisation of ancillary units of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd at Tiruchi, has for long felt the need for a common design facility to emerge as total product manufacturers.

A proposal, as part of an engineering fabrication industrial cluster at Tiruchi, is pending with the Union Ministry of Industries and Commerce for approval. If sanctioned, a financial assistance to the tune of the Rs 50 crore for setting up the common training, testing and manufacturing facilities would become available.

The design centre, currently proposed, will then be merged with the main engineering fabrication cluster, he said.

Mr Rajappa said a partnership firm "Bhelssia Design Cluster' has been floated with 36 members, each paying a money of Rs 10,000.

Banks are also to be approached for financial assistance, as the estimated cost is Rs 50 lakh. The centre would be converted into a private limited company later. The BHEL has agreed to help with certain software and a few orders to start with.

The centre would provide a common facility for structural designing and preparation of designs for ducting and other heavy industry equipment.

Members of Bhelssia and Design Cluster could utilise the facility at concessional rates.
