Letters Media glare
This is with reference to "Media glare that hurts" (Business Line, August 11). The article has raised certain pertinent points. One believes that as a society we spend too much time watching television. Therefore, there is pressure on the print media to constantly innovate and wean away the TV audience. No wonder many newspapers today have turned their front pages into a comic art and graphic presentation. It is sad to see dailies in their quest for market expansion dumbing down the content to a level of immaturity. Earlier, choosing a publication reflected the individual readers maturity and intellect. Newspapers known for their sombre looks, deep focus and intellectual depth are today using gaudy colours and comic art. Newspapers known to set the agenda and set trends for a nation to think are today following the trends set by television which by its very nature is celebrity hounding. V. V. Sundar New Delhi
