THE Government today called for private sector participation in welfare measures such as capacity building for communities and resource institutions.
Speaking at a conference organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to discuss `corporate sector participation in elementary education', the Union Minister for Human Resource Development (HRD), Mr Arjun Singh, acknowledged that Government initiatives might not always be adequate and thus, there is a need for the corporate sector to participate in improving the standards of elementary education in the country.
"Each one of us should try to excel the other in an effort to make our country literate and educated, our children literate and educated," said Mr Singh, and stressed that the Government would act as a facilitator towards the endeavour.
