Chennai , Sept. 5

AKIKO Callnet, provider of call centre training, has set up six training centres in Tamil Nadu — four in Chennai, one each in Coimbatore and Udhagamandalam.

It plans to set up four more centres in Chennai, and 20 more in Tamil Nadu before the year-end in various places, including Madurai and Tiruchi, said Mr Vikas Sharma, Chief Operating Officer, Akiko Callnet, which is part of the Sherman group.

The company's training institutes in the country have increased to 80. Out of this, the company owns six centres in India, and has franchised the rest, he said.

According to Mr Sharma, the Rs 16-crore Akiko Callnet was started four years ago and has trained about 20,000 students.

Out of this, about 18,000 have found placements in companies such as Sutherland Global Services, Wipro Spectramind, Allsec Technologies and eServe.

The company charges Rs 6,000 for a month's course in training for call centre, he said.

Akiko Callnet has tied up with Train Now, a US-based training firm, for certification. The company provides on-the-job training with leading call centre and business process outsourcing firms, said Mr S. Balakrishnan, Regional Service Provider for Chennai.
