NIFD to set up centre in Vizag

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Chandigarh-based National Institute of Fashion Design (NIFD), of Ms Ritu Beri, will set up a centre here. It is to be inaugurated by Ms Tanushree Dutta, Femina Miss India-Universe 2004, on Tuesday.

Mr K. Pratap Kumar, Director of the Visakhapatnam centre, said at a press meet here on Sunday that it would provide quality education in fashion design, textile design and interior design. "With the apparel park coming up at Parawada in Visakhapatnam district, we are sure there will be great demand for textile designers."

The institute willoffer three new specialisation courses in select centres in apparel manufacturing, marketing and merchandising, garment manufacturing technology and knitwear design. NIFD was also collaborating with Annamalai University in offering the three-year B.Sc degree course, two-year advance diploma and one-year diploma in fashion designing. He said the NIFD had so far set up 180 centres in India and abroad. The Vizag centre willbe the latest addition.
