New Projects Industry & Economy - Power NLC gets Govt nod for Mine-II expansion Our Bureau
Chennai , Oct. 4 NEYVELI Lignite Corporation Ltd today announced that the Union Government has approved its expansion proposal for increasing the lignite production capacity of second mine from 10.5 million tonnes per annum to 15 million tonnes per annum and for increasing the power generating capacity of second Thermal Power Station from 1,470 MW to 1,970 MW. The cost of the project is estimated at Rs 4,192 crore and will be executed at a debt-equity mix of 70:30, the company said. When implemented, the total lignite production capacity of the company will increase to 28.5 million tonnes per annum and the power generating capacity will increase to 2,990 MW. Mine-II expansion project is an expansion of second mine by annexing an area of 16.47 sq.km. The total estimated mineable lignite reserve within the expansion area is 214.88 million tonnes. Thermal Power Station-II expansion proposal involves installation of two units of 250-MW capacity each using environment friendly boilers adopting Circulating Fluidised Bed Combustion (CFBC) technology. The plant will generate 3285 million units of power annually and will supply to Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and the Union Territory of Pondicherry. The Power Purchase Agreement has been singed with the above States.
