Outsourcing Info-Tech - Outsourcing Nissan in talks with Infosys for outsourcing Vishwanath Kulkarni
Bangalore , Oct. 6 NISSAN Motor Corporation is said to be in advanced talks with Infosys for outsourcing its IT services. The Nissan Motor CEO and President, Mr Carlos Ghosn, visited the Infosys campus in Bangalore on Wednesday and held exploratory meetings with the top brass. Prior to Mr Ghosn's visit, a team of officials from Nissan is said to have visited the company and held early talks, sources said. Infosys did not comment on Mr Ghosn's visit. However, his visit seemed to come at an appropriate time for Infosys as it gears up to make an aggressive push into the Asia-Pacific market, which currently accounts for close to 10 per cent of its revenues. The company has six offices in the Asia-Pacific, excluding India, with close to 2,000 staff. Infosys has been growing at a compounded rate of 100 per cent in the Asia-Pacific over the last 7-8 years. Revenues from the region stood at $100 million on a last twelve-month basis ending June this year. The company considers Japan and Australia as the two major markets in the Asia-Pacific, apart from China and ASEAN nations. Toshiba is the key client in Japan, the second largest IT services market after US, where Infosys has 15-odd customers. Infosys sees huge opportunities in Japan emerging due to the 2007 problem. Japan has plenty of legacy systems and people maintaining these are all from the baby boomer generation. It is expected that a fair number of these people will retire in 2007, which gives Infosys a unique opportunity to capitalise, the company told analysts recently. The company is investing significantly in coming out with the solution that would enable it to capture a fair piece of this available market, it added.
