`Film row far from over'

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: Notwithstanding Karnataka's decision to scale down the ban period on new non-Kannada films, Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce (APFCC) has stuck to its ultimatum of non-cooperation until the ban is lifted completely.

The Telugu film industry said the row was far from over.

Reacting to reports from Karnataka, which said that the row blew over, Mr G. Adiseshagiri Rao, President of APFCC, said scaling down of the ban from seven weeks to three weeks was not okay with the Telugu film industry.

"We don't approve of this. We demand that they should lift the ban on new releases of non-Kannada films," he said.

He said the joint action committee set up by the Film Federation of India to fight the protectionist Karnataka decision would meet in Mumbai next week to take stock of the situation.

"Nothing short of lifting of the ban is agreeable to us. If they don't act, the court will solve the issue," he asserted.
