Kerala Circle SBI staff to strike work

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Employees of State Bank of India (SBI), Kerala Circle, will join their counterparts elsewhere in a countrywide strike on Friday in protest against the `anti-labour' policies pursued by the management.

According to Mr K. Raja Kurup, President, State Banks' Staff Union, the main demands relate to filling of vacancies, retention of provident fund and pension facilities to new recruits and stoppage of outsourcing of bank activity to outside agencies, among others.

Entrusting work to contracted workers will only result in deterioration in the quality of service. There is also a tendency among bankers to differentiate customers on the basis of perceived affluence and favour the privileged. This has to be stopped forthwith, Mr Kurup said.
