Textile Machinery Textile machinery expo lures foreign cos G. Gurumurthy
Coimbatore , Nov. 7 THE global textile machinery exhibitors' response to the forthcoming India International Textile Machinery Exhibition (ITME), to open up in Mumbai next month, was overwhelming. The organisers of the India ITME 2004, the India International Textile Machinery Exhibitions Society, had to deny participation for at least 100 exhibitors who had sought space in the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Goregaon, Mumbai, the venue for the 7th India International Textile Machinery exhibition. The exhibition will be held between December 4 and 11. According to Mr G.T. Dembla, Chairman of the India International Textile Machinery Exhibitions Society, which organises the event once in four years, several global textile machinery majors from 26 countries are participating in the next month's fair. The 7th edition of the fair will this time showcase the technology show of textile machinery spread over a gross area of 50,000 sq mtr. The number of business visitors expected to visit the next month fair is around 1.2 lakh. The profile of the 800-odd machinery exhibitors participating this year will be segmented under spinning/spinning accessories, weaving and weaving accessories including knitting, electronic, instrumentation and components and textile finishing machinery including the processing and their accessories. Global machinery majors including Trutszchler, Reiter, Schlafhorst, Toyoda, Murata, Savio, Marzoli, Picanol and Uster will figure in 300-odd foreign machinery exhibitors expected to display their products in the fair. The prominent Indian makers will include, Lakshmi Machine Works, ATE Enterprises, Batliboi, Dalal Engineering, Himson Textile Engineering, Kirloskar Toyoda, Veejay Lakshmi, Harish Enterprises and Premier Polytronics. A roadshow on the Mumbai fair was organised for the Coimbatore textile region by the ITME Society here recently. Top ITME Society functionaries including Mr Dembla and Mr Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu, who is the co- chairman of the ITME society, and also the Chairman of the textile machinery manufacturers association of India (TMMAI), Mr C.V. Radhakrishnan, Executive Director of the Society and Mr Vijay Venkataswamy, Chairman of the Southern India Mills Association (SIMA) attended the road-show. The next month's Mumbai fair, according to Mr Radhakrishnan, will also have prominent participation from textile machinery producers from China for the first time and another significant participation from foreign entries will be in the form of two country pavilions - from Germany and Italy each with a floor area of 1000 sq mtr. A large textile trade delegation from Pakistan and Bangladesh, which are credited to possess huge volume of `flawless' fabric production capacities, is another key aspect and these countries are looking at the scope to tap the market potential in India. Mr Jayavarthanavelu pointed out that close on the heels of several initiatives taken in recent times in support of the textile sector such as the fiscal restructuring, capital subsidy for the weaving industries and promotion schemes for apparel parks and textile clusters, the investments in industry was bound to go up.
