Agricultural Policy AP Govt firm on completing irrigation projects: CM Ch. R.S.Sarma
Kakinada , Nov. 7 THE State Government is determined to complete long-pending irrigation projects such as the Polavaram project and all avenues will be explored to find the requisite resources, said Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister. He spoke at a number of public meetings in the East Godavari district on Sunday, touring villages as part of his `Rajiv Palle Baata' programme. He said that he would lay the foundation stone for the work on the Polavaram Right Canal project in West Godavari district on Monday. It would be named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Dr Reddy also said that the Polavaram project would be a great boon to both East and West Godavari districts and the north coastal districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam. "The Polavaram project will fulfill the long-cherished desire of the people of the north coastal and Godavari districts." Besides, the project would facilitate transfer of Godavari water to the Krishna basin to stabilise the Krishna delta. Nearly 1,000 MW of power would also be generated. The project is estimated to cost over Rs 8,000 crore. Some 25 years ago, T. Anjayya, the then Congress Chief Minister, laid the foundation stone for the project and subsequently, N.T. Rama Rao, the Telugu Desam Chief Minister, also did the same. Dr Reddy will be the third Chief Minister to do so on Monday.
