Bangalore , Nov. 30

UGS, a provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, announced its strategic relationship with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) on Tuesday to set up PLM labs at affiliated engineering colleges of VTU across Karnataka.

This tie-up would position VTU on par with leading universities worldwide, and provide access for affiliated colleges to world-class PLM software tools from UGS, covering areas such as computer aided design, manufacturing and engineering (CAD/CAM/CAE). In addition to providing software tools, UGS will work closely with VTU in preparing customised course content aligned with global industry practices.

UGS will provide PLM software tools such as NX, Solid Edge, FEMAP and Nastran to VTU as part of this agreement. UGS will also conduct specialised train-the-trainer programmes to faculty members of the affiliated colleges. VTU will also leverage the PLM labs for promotion of "industry-university" partnership to fuel innovation, which is the key to sustained industrial growth in India.

"VTU's vision is to become an outstanding technological university at the cutting edge of science and technology that produces world-class knowledge-delivery, research, extension and leadership in technology innovation for industry and society," said Mr K. Balaveera Reddy, Vice- Chancellor, VTU. "By providing access to the same software tools used by leading manufacturing companies worldwide, we will be able to expose our students to current global best practices in product development processes," he said.
