A GROUP of dentists in Chennai has floated a company, La Forte Dental Paradigm, which aims to get established independent dental practices to join them, and use the increasing business volume to lower its costs and customers' fees.
At a press conference on Thursday, Dr S.K. Mukilan, Director (Resources & Resolution), said La Forte currently ran three clinics in Chennai. It is in talks to add six more in the city, and plans to eventually spread its wings to other parts of India.
By jointly purchasing raw materials, the three La Forte clinics had managed to reduce costs by 15 per cent, said Dr Mukilan. He added that once the company roped in 30 clinics, it would have the critical mass to manufacture some of the raw materials.
A La Forte doctor explained that dentists who joined the company would become shareholders. Their contribution to share capital could come in the form of the clinic's infrastructure.
The clinic would initially be allowed to retain its original name, and simultaneously display the La Forte identity. All the clinics would, however, charge uniform fees, and also function round-the-clock. La Forte has also established a 24-hour helpline.
