Capart to speed up funding in Kerala

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Council for Advancement of People's Action and Rural Technology (Capart) has decided to accelerate rural funding through non-government organisations (NGOs) and has launched State-level Rural NGO Forum for the purpose.

A Capart spokesman said here that this would help the organisation to be more effective and accessible to NGOs and strengthen the communication channels on systematic and institutional lines. The Capart Director-General, Mr L.S. Saptharishi, told representatives of over 350 NGOs attending a consultative meeting here that the forum would comprise all NGOs working in rural areas, even those that do not receive Capart funds.

Its revised charter will help Capart address issues of connectivity and interact closely with the Union Ministries of Commerce and Rural Development on all matters relating to the World Trade Organisation (WTO). Capart is looking at organisational changes too, with infrastructure and capacity building as focus, Mr Saptharishi said.
