Chennai , Dec. 23 SRILANKAN Airlines, together with SriLankan Convention Bureau, local professional conference organisations and destination management organisers are increasingly targeting India to increase MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) traffic to Sri Lanka. In 2003, Sri Lanka registered over 90,000 tourist arrivals from India. Out of this, 15 per cent were MICE travellers. "We are currently targeting a 5 per cent increase in MICE traffic every year," Mr J.D. Weimen, Manager-India, SriLankan Airlines, said in a press release. Over 150 Indian groups have already visited Sri Lanka in 2004. The groups include companies such as Microsoft, Gillette, Samsung, Fedex, Dupont, Tata Teleservices and Dr Reddy's Labs. There are plans to actively bid for conventions through SriLanka's Indian offices, he said in the release. For MICE travellers, the Sri Lankan Airlines offer various incentives, including special airfares (group fares and discounts on individual fares), elite in-flight services (group seating and special meal requests) and assistance at airports (special group baggage tags and online assistance to passengers), the release said.
