E-Commerce & E-Business Baazee CEO bullish on e-com prospects Our Bureau
New Delhi , Jan. 7 VIRTUALLY undeterred by the recent MMS controversy, Baazee.com CEO Mr Avnish Bajaj has said the company continues to be bullish on potential of e-commerce and Internet market in India. "My view is that India has an extremely bright future in Internet space. We had a great past in IT services, we have a bright future as far as Internet and e-commerce is concerned... I can say that Baazee and eBay are committed... We have been here for around five years, are here to stay and look forward to exploring the Internet and e-commerce potential in the country," Mr Bajaj said on the sidelines of a conference on .in domain name here. Mr Bajaj, however, parried questions on whether the Information Technology Act 2000 needs to be amended for limiting the liability of network service providers. "I have full faith in the judicial system. If there are changes to be made, it is up to the Ministry to make them," he added. On the issue of the screening process adopted by auction sites for products posted for sale, he said, "We have always had a screening process, in this particular case also, we had a screening process. "The item was caught by our processes and immediately taken off. But one must understand that there is a technological limitation to what can be done if a person has mala fide intention... We will continue to exercise caution and due diligence and improve upon it." It may be recalled that Mr Bajaj was arrested last month in connection with the high-profile case involving sale of a sexually explicit clip on Baazee.com site. On December 21, the Delhi High Court granted bail to Mr Bajaj.
