New Delhi , Jan. 10

EARTHMOVING equipment manufacturer JCB India today announced that it would be setting up a new plant in Pune for manufacturing of construction equipment to meet future demand.

Company officials, however, said that details related to investments and size of the intended plant, were still being worked out. JCB India currently has a plant in Ballabgarh.

With infrastructural projects within the country gaining momentum, JCB India sees huge potential for its products.

"The market continues to be buoyant with further infrastructure development being announced. We foresee further growth potential in all sectors of the construction market over the next years. In fact, we have already started making further investments in the business. We have just completed a new transmissions machining and assembly facility where we have invested in new machine tools and assembly techniques," Mr Onkar Singh Sunar, Managing Director, JCB India, said.

The company achieved sales of over 5,400 machines in 2004, up 46 per cent over the previous year. "We have been able to maintain our market share of about 81 per cent in the backhoe loader segment and increased overall market share to 57 per cent. In addition, we have also made inroads in the excavators segment. We are targeting to sell about 6,500 machines in 2005," Mr Sandeep Singh, Vice-President (sales and marketing), JCB India, said.
