Nov bus, truck tyre output dips

TRUCK and bus tyre production declined in the month of November 2004 to 9.04 lakh units as against production level of 9.22 lakh units recorded in October last year.

Production in this category, which accounts for over 60 per cent of total tyre industry turnover (in value terms), had touched 9.23 lakh tyres in September 2004.

The domestic tyre industry had manufactured 9.15 lakh truck and bus tyres in November 2003.

However, truck and bus tyre production for the period April-November 2004 registered an increase to 72.89 lakh units as compared to 71.25 lakh units in the same period during the previous year.

On the export front, truck and bus tyre exports surged to 2.31 lakh units in November 2004 from a level of 1.84 lakh tyres in October 2004.

Exports of truck and bus tyres in November 2003 stood at 1.78 lakh tyres.

According to the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers' Association (ATMA), passenger car tyre production by ATMA member companies during

November 2004 stood at 9.89 lakh tyres as against 9.64 lakh tyres in the previous month.

Passenger car tyre production by ATMA member companies had touched 9.04 lakh tyres in November 2003.

Production of light commercial vehicle (LCV) tyres during November 2004 stood at 3.28 lakh tyres as against 3.27 lakh tyres in the previous month.

LCV tyre production in November 2003 stood at 2.73 lakh tyres.
