Hyderabad , Jan. 18

THE State Government will distribute one lakh acres of agriculture land to poorer sections of society on Republic Day, the Revenue Minister, Mr D. Prasada Rao, announced here on Tuesday.

In a statement, he said the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, would formally launch the programme on January 26 from Kodangal in Mahaboobnagar district, while the Ministers and MLAs would also distribute land across all the constituencies simultaneously.

Stating that the land distribution programme is being taken up in a transparent manner by giving no scope to criticism, he said the MLA of the constituency, irrespective of his party affiliation, would be the President of the land assignment committee. The programme has been worked out carefully keeping in view the bad experiences in land distribution schemes earlier, the Minister said.

Providing details of the programme, Mr Rao said the pattas of land would be given only on the name of women members of the landless poor. Half of the land earmarked for distribution would be reserved for the schedule caste and tribes.
