Independent directors for Reliance Info, RCIL appointed

THE Supreme Court advocate and tax consultant, Mr Y.P. Trivedi, and a former secretary with the Union Government, Mr M.P. Modi, were inducted as independent directors on the boards of Reliance Infocomm Ltd (RIC) and Reliance Communications Infrastructure Ltd (RCIL), which met today.

This is consequent to a request from the boards of the two companies at their meetings on December 22 last year that two independent directors of Reliance Industries Ltd be suggested for appointment as independent directors for RIC and RCIL, said a news release from Reliance Infocomm today.

RIL suggested these two names, said the release: "The appointment of Y.P. Trivedi and M.P. Modi as independent directors is a step towards establishing higher levels of corporate governance."

Besides being a director of RIL and other leading companies, Mr Trivedi is also chairman of the Audit Committee, and a member of Shareholders/Investors Grievance Committee, Corporate Governance and Shareholders Interface Committee and the Remuneration Committee of the Directors of RIL.

Mr Modi has been a Director at Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) since March 28, 2001, said the release.

He is Chairman of the Audit Committee of Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Ltd and Member of the Audit Committee, Corporate Governance and Shareholders Interface Committee of the Directors of RIL.

The existing directors on the boards of these companies are Mr Mukesh Ambani, Mr Manoj Modi, Mr Anand Jain and Mr Bharat Goenka.
