Excise and Customs Mysore Zone excise revenue collection up 31 pc Our Bureau
Mangalore , March 9 THE Mysore Zone of Central Excise collected Rs 3,367 crore revenue till the end of February as against Rs 2,562 crore during the corresponding period of the previous year, registering a growth of 31 per cent. The Belgaum, Mangalore and Mysore commissionerates come under the jurisdiction of Mysore Zone. Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Dr G.K. Pillai, Chief Commissioner, Central Excise and Customs, Mysore Zone, said that though the zone has registered an impressive growth over the previous year, it has to collect nearly Rs 600 crore more to achieve the target of Rs 3,936 crore. Dr Pillai said while the collections of Belgaum and Mysore commissionerates stood at Rs 920 crore and Rs 344 crore respectively, the Mangalore Commissionerate collected Rs 2,103 crore till February. He said Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd is the highest revenue payer of the Mysore Zone. Welcoming the Centre's decision to exempt service tax assessees whose turnover is less than Rs 4 lakh a year, Dr Pillai told the assessees to pay up their dues by March before going out of the service tax net. Their liability in the current year will continue to remain on them until they discharge it. He said it is a statutory requirement for the assessees of service tax and central excise to pay their dues by March 31. The zone collected service tax of Rs 132.44 crore till the end of January as against Rs 83.65 crore during the corresponding period of the previous year. Allaying the fears of jewellers on branded jewellery, he said the Government has issued a clarification in this regard.
