Corporate Disputes Info-Tech - Telecommunications Delhi HC asks MTNL not to disconnect Reliance Infocomm Our Bureau
New Delhi , March 10 THE Delhi High Court, on Thursday, put a stay on the disconnection notice sent by MTNL to Reliance Infocomm over non-payment of access deficit charges on international calls illegally routed as local ones. The stay order was given after Reliance agreed to pay an interim compensation of Rs 125 crore. State-owned MTNL had demanded over Rs 341 core from Reliance for the illegal calls. Mr Justice S.K. Aggrawal stayed the disconnection till May 9 while asking the private telecom operator to pay the said amount within four weeks. Reliance has already paid about Rs 110 crore to MTNL and the payment of the additional Rs 125 crore would constitute about 69 per cent of the total demand. Earlier this month, MTNL had served the notice to Reliance to pay the amount by March 12. BSNL has also raised demands for about Rs 200 crore. The private operator has already paid over Rs 180 crore to BSNL on this account even as the matter is being deliberated in the courts.
