Tobacco AP to monitor tobacco market Our Bureau
Hyderabad , March 18 THE Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Friday directed the State Government officials to be in constant touch with the Tobacco Board and monitor progress of tobacco purchases by buyers on a day-to-day basis. As the delay in arrival of buyers to the State tobacco market was causing concern, the Chief Minister had also written a letter to the Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Mr Kamal Nath, last week to instruct the Tobacco Board to create a momentum in the market so that tobacco prices would improve, according to an official press release here on Friday. The Tobacco Board Chairman, Mr Dayachari, had also convened a meeting of buyers last week and requested them to enter the market. The buyers have agreed to start purchases in the State as soon as the tobacco auctions concluded in Karnataka. The Tobacco Board has informed the State Government that purchases by major buyers would commence in a few days with the auctions in Karnataka concluding on Thursday.
