ONGC mulls agency model for retail outlets

Pratim Ranjan Bose

Kolkata , March 21

AFTER having inaugurated its first retail outlet at Mangalore late last week, ONGC is set to expand the network by some 12 to 15 `OvaL RelaxTop' outlets during the next fiscal. According to sources, the new outlets are expected in the Mangalore-Bangalore, Bangalore-Goa and Ahmedabad-Mehsana regions so that the supplies can be made from MRPL.

Following the company-owned-company-operated (COCO) model, ONGC may hand over the operational contract of its outlets to a single agency in the future. The company has already received a few proposals in this regard. While the first outlet is being directly operated by it, sources said that once the number increases, it might be difficult to continue with the same model.
